hmmmm i voted for the second option but it doesn't actually capture my opinion which is that my first year learning calc introduced it in the handwavey way but both HS senior year calc and first-year college calc did the rigorous delta/epsilon definition with uh real analysis being a whole separate class that i never took and thus have no idea what it covers math

Thinking a lot abt the fact that Miranda is described as not Henry Lawson's first clone but the first one he "kept" and what that means for her and her motivations. I mean, that would have had to effect her decision to take Oriana and run, right? Not only for her own safety as she was likely about to be discarded and replaced, but presumably for Oriana's future as well. Here's Miranda, isolated and privileged and tested and pressured and controlled every day and realizing full well that how hard she's worked how much she's tried how well she's succeeded hasn't meant anything to her father. At most it's bought her a few extra years, and now he's ready to upgrade. Try again. And there's no end in sight to a cycle like that because the man is a megalomaniac and he'll never be satisfied.

We know there's a 16 year age difference between Ori and Miranda, that Oriana was an infant when Miranda broke them out. She would have been 16? Maybe 17 when she joined up with Cerberus?

And she gives her baby sister away to get her a chance at a full life. And dedicates herself to Cerberus, determined to excel to prove her father wrong, to achieve for her own sake, to build up the power to keep herself and her sister safe by making herself indispensable to the only man she's ever met with more authority and resources than her father.

But there's got to be something else, doesn't there? There's got to be this awareness that every day Miranda lives, she's standing on the bones of her sisters who never got the same chance. That every advantage afforded to her was paid in their blood.

Of course she's driven to succeed for herself, for Oriana, in defiance of her father, for the sake of Humanity. But she must be motivated by the lost sisters she never knew. They're dead and she's not. She's got to make that worth it. She's got to at least try.

JUST SAYING Miranda's "Or what? You'll replace me?" line to the Illusive Man when he tells her not to let Shepard destroy the Collector Base at the end of ME2 really hits differently with the context of Miranda leaving behind the life she was born into at 16 because she knew she would be replaced vs CHOOSING to walk away from the life she spent the last two decades building in her mid 30s bc she finally felt empowered to do so!

And then her arc in the next game CONCLUDES with fighting tooth and nail to tear down her shitty second father figure AND literally actually killing her even shittier real dad and finally freeing herself and her sister from the danger he poses to them! You LOVE to see it!!!

mass effect miranda lawson what if replayed from me2 w mshep just to romance her.... me meta

I think the Evil Media Bias Against Platonic Relationships is one of those things tumblr loves to get worked up about despite, like. simply not being real.

"men in media are never allowed to have their closest, most meaningful relationship be a platonic friendship with another man!" I'm sorry but I am not convinced that you've ever consumed media

"okay maybe buddy comedies exist or whatever, but this is a problem in fandom spaces--" It's not a "problem" that gay people on the internet like to draw gay kissing. Hope this helps <3

me, shaking the people in the notes by the shoulders: Fandom is an extremely niche subculture. Gay shipping is a niche of that niche. 99% of the population does not engage with it. You do not have to walk into the Gay Romance And Erotica Club and complain about the gay romance and erotica

the people in the notes: I'm being forced at gunpoint actually

walking into the kissing men club and asking why the men are kissing there are simply plenty of clubs with no men kissing - please proceed there ...wait actually this is making me think of that post about writing dudes i reblogged a long time ago bc like there is lots of fiction with dudes caring very deeply about other dudes platonically much if it written by men but i wonder if like...some people don't quite parse the caring there correctly these tags probably make no sense im writing them at 1am without my glasses on so be it
